Temecula Launches “Flags of Honor” Program to Honor Military Veterans at the Duck Pond

The City of Temecula has introduced a new community program that turns one of the city’s most beloved gathering spots into a moving tribute to military service.

The Flags of Honor program invites residents to sponsor an American flag that will be displayed along the perimeter of the Temecula Duck Pond during Memorial Day and Veterans Day — creating a sea of flags and a deeply personal memorial right in the heart of the community.

Each sponsored flag comes with a personalized dedication card for $30. When the display comes down, sponsors take both the flag and the card home as a keepsake.

Mayor Jessica Alexander called it exactly what it is: “The new Flags of Honor program is a heartfelt way for our community to come together in remembrance and gratitude. Each flag represents a story of service and sacrifice, and this program allows us to honor those individuals in a deeply personal and visible way.”

For Memorial Day, the deadline to apply is May 3.

Sponsors may dedicate a flag in honor of military personnel who lost their lives in service, or in memory of veterans who have since passed. The display will be up from May 18 through June 1, giving the whole community — not just sponsors — a chance to walk the Duck Pond path and take it all in.

There’s also a bonus for Memorial Day sponsors: you’re invited to carry your flag in the City of Temecula’s 4th of July Parade, walking the route as a living tribute to your honored service member. That’s a pretty special way to extend the recognition well beyond Memorial Day weekend.

Applications are open now at TemeculaCA.gov/Veterans. Information about the Veterans Day display is available there as well.

If you have a family member, neighbor, or friend who served — this is a simple, affordable, and genuinely beautiful way to make sure their name is seen.
