SDG&E’s Golden Pacific Powerlink Open House Is in Temecula This Wednesday, 4 to 7 PM
SDG&E is holding an open house at the Embassy Suites in Temecula this Wednesday, August 26, from 4 to 7 PM. Fallbrook gets the same treatment the night before — Tuesday, August 25, at the Fallbrook Community Center, same hours. Both dates come straight off SDG&E’s own August fact sheet, which says registration is encouraged but not required. In other words, you can just show up.
What the Project Actually Is
The project is called Golden Pacific Powerlink. It’s a proposed 500 kilovolt transmission line that would run from SDG&E’s Imperial Valley Substation to a new substation the utility would build near the San Diego and Orange County line. SDG&E puts the price tag at roughly $1.6 billion.
Event Timing
SDG&E’s own schedule has the company filing with the California Public Utilities Commission this fall or winter — and it’s the CPUC, not SDG&E, that ultimately decides which route moves forward into environmental review. That makes these open houses one of the more meaningful windows to weigh in before the process shifts into a more formal, bureaucratic phase.
After Wednesday, the fact sheet only lists two more open houses: El Centro on October 13 and Borrego Springs on October 14. If you live locally and want to see the maps, ask questions, or just understand what’s being proposed, this week’s meetings are the convenient ones.
Know Before You Go
Worth keeping in mind walking in: this is SDG&E’s event, running on SDG&E’s material and framing. The City of Temecula has already posted a page opposing the proposed route, which the city says would run through Temecula — specifically along SR 79, Temecula Parkway, Temecula Creek, and the Santa Margarita River. If you want the city’s side of the story before Wednesday, that’s worth a read too.
